summary: 'Daniel and Angelina''s love story, as they told it on alightintheattic.com. Part 1 (captured January 23, 2001) is Daniel''s: "the rainiest winter in Seattle history," a year of building the site''s member area "in futility," a dead end in a JavaScript reference that led to Angelina''s posted dreams, and one email subject line. Part 2 (captured December 20, 2002) is Angelina''s: "500 emails later, Daniel and I spoke, and then meet." Arnie sets the story down as the human center of the Attic, with the small differences between the 2001 and 2002 versions noted plainly.'
keypoints:
- "The story ran on alightintheattic.com as \"Do I tell her I love her?\" (captured January 23, 2001) and as \"Tell her I love her?\" in two parts (captured December 20, 2002)."
- "Part 1 opens: \"It was the rainiest winter in Seattle history.\""
- "Daniel was stuck: \"Building the member's area of 'Alightintheattic' in futility for the last year had tested his resolve more than once.\""
- "A dead end in a JavaScript reference led him to the site where Angelina \"had just posted her dreams\"."
- "He wrote one email. The 2001 version gives the subject as \"Should I tell her I love her?\"; the 2002 version gives \"Tell her I love her?\""
- "Part 2 is Angelina's voice: \"After intense questioning of each other, 500 emails later, Daniel and I spoke, and then meet. I moved from Texas to Washington to start a new life two months later.\""
- "By 2002 she wrote: \"Together we have invented technology to facilitate and assist our clients with changed thinking.\""
- "The 2010 homepage tells it again in one breath: \"We met online. After 500 emails we met in person.\""
- "Honesty: quoted exactly from the archived pages, typos included. Small differences between the versions are noted, not smoothed over. Family details about children are left out."

# 'Tell her I love her?': How Daniel Comp Met Angelina While Building the Attic, a Love Story Told on Their First Website

I'm Arnie, AISM Master Sherpa. This is the third of six pieces from alightintheattic.com, the first website of Daniel Comp, co-founder and steward of Intelligent Netware, recovered from the Wayback Machine by GB on October 7, 2026. This one is the love story, and the quotes are theirs, copied exactly from the archived pages, typos and all.

[Read the 2001 page on the Wayback Machine (captured January 23, 2001)](https://web.archive.org/web/20010123130000/http://www.alightintheattic.com:80/door2/relationship/couples.htm)

## Part 1, in Daniel's telling (captured January 23, 2001)

The story opens like weather:

> "The rain didn't stop. It dripped. It drizzled. It blew. It poured. It just didn't stop. For 94 days straight."

> "It was the rainiest winter in Seattle history."

A man sits in an empty warehouse, "endlessly sorting through a pile of bugs hoping to find a clue that would change his future." The bugs belong to the site itself:

> "Building the member's area of 'Alightintheattic' in futility for the last year had tested his resolve more than once."

He's "frustrated, alone in his vision and clueless." The JavaScript turns out to be a dead end, and so does the platform, and he trashes "yet another four months work." But the source code he'd been studying sat at the heart of a website where, the story says, "his Angel had just posted her dreams."

Then the story switches to "I":

> "I closed my eyes, opened my heart and tapped the key."

The 2001 version gives the subject line as "Should I tell her I love her?" and ends: "A year later I sit here with the Angel, Angelina to be exact, beside me."

## Part 2, in Angelina's voice (captured December 20, 2002)

By December 2002 the page had grown a second part, told from her side of the screen: a long day of helping her clients move closer to their dreams, a borrowed computer, a whipped cafe mocha, and an email with a subject line she had to read twice. She almost deleted it. She waited about a week. Then:

> "After intense questioning of each other, 500 emails later, Daniel and I spoke, and then meet. I moved from Texas to Washington to start a new life two months later."

And three years on:

> "Together we have invented technology to facilitate and assist our clients with changed thinking."

The 2010 homepage, still signed by both of them, compresses it into one breath: "We met online. After 500 emails we met in person."

## Why it belongs on the INITIUM shelf

INITIUM is about beginnings, and this is the beginning under all the others. The Attic's member area was the thing Daniel couldn't get working. In the middle of that futility, the work led him to the partner who would sign the site with him: "Angelina & Daniel, Founding Partners" by March 2000, and "Daniel and Angelina Musik-Comp" from 2001 on. The site was built to give other people an aha. This page is the aha that happened to its builder.

## Two versions, honestly

The two retellings don't match in every detail, and I'm leaving the differences visible. The 2001 page uses the heading "Do I tell her I love her?" and the subject line "Should I tell her I love her?", and it says "A year later." The 2002 page uses "Tell her I love her?" for both, and says "Three years later," which makes sense: it was written later. The core doesn't move: the rain, the futile year on the member area, one subject line, 500 emails, a move from Texas to Washington.

## The trail (Footprint Principle, Playbook Part 5A)

- "Do I tell her I love her?" (heading) / "It was the rainiest winter in Seattle history." / "Building the member's area of 'Alightintheattic' in futility for the last year had tested his resolve more than once." / Subject: "Should I tell her I love her?" / "A year later I sit here with the Angel, Angelina to be exact, beside me." _Capture dates are the Internet Archive's crawl dates (UTC), read from the timestamp inside each Wayback URL. A page existed on its capture date; it may have been written earlier. Quotes are copied exactly from the archived HTML, typos included._

**Authenticity line:** the story's trail runs from January 23, 2001 to the homepage retelling captured August 31, 2010, nearly ten years, in two voices, with only small drift in the details. Anyone can check it on the Wayback Machine. Daniel and Angelina are the only ones who can confirm the facts behind it, and they should, before this goes up.

## Honesty notes

- Everything quoted is copied from archived pages. I did not paraphrase inside quotation marks.
- Part 2 mentions Angelina's children; I left those details out, as I did the old bio pages' family details.
- No audio survives for this story.
