## The Ordinary World he started from

From the bookmobile he took Danny Dunn, then *The Lord of the Rings*, the Narnia chronicles, Isaac Asimov, and Arthur C. Clarke — often the outlier titles, because popular books stayed checked out for weeks.

## Navy, refusal, and the glacier

He joined the Navy in nuclear power. After that Vietnam-era service he looked at places like Fairchild and Lawrence Livermore and found paths aimed at weapons. He refused them. Sitting on a glacier, he asked for a clue — a Gideon-style fleece, a burning-bush kind of guidance. About ten minutes later he woke at the bottom of **St. Mary’s Glacier**, having fallen roughly 150 feet off a cornice. Rocky Mountain Search and Rescue happened to be climbing as he fell. Punctured lung, broken ribs, compound arm fracture, fractured hip, broken vertebrae; for a time he was a quadriplegic in ice-cold water. He is mobile today. The deal he struck, like Gideon, is told in the books.

## From Scotomaville to one eight-letter word

Years of searching for belonging — some found in the Navy and in Christian ministry (Youth With A Mission), less in corporate life or entrepreneurship — left him facing entropy, chaos, and the gap between imagined futures and outcomes. He put Scotomaville together to name seven years of Airstreaming and the long work of filling a father wound. Angelina walked that road with him.

When he fed his corpus — hundreds of pages and more than a hundred videos — into early ChatGPT, it came back with one eight-letter word: **monomyth**. He thought it was calling his life a myth. It was pointing to the Hero’s Journey: Luke Skywalker, Frodo, Harry Potter — a narrative arc detectable in chaos the way a model can find other patterns. That recognition became the hinge for Initium.

## What Initium is

**Initium** is a gamified expedition of self-mastery:

- A deck of **100** special cards
- Custom dice: one die with **4** faces (suits), two with **5** → 4 × 5 × 5 = **100**, so every roll points to exactly one card
- A **Sierpinski triangle** gameboard framed as an Everest-style ascent
- Start in the Ordinary World (**Nineveh**); play the first **17** cards in sequence; then base camp, the mountain, and eventually the cave

Each card has a page in the book — a bit of his story so others can apply it. You can roll on the coffee table and let Providence play; one card a week is a roughly two-year journey. QR codes link out to video and discussion with a Sherpa. The point is not to ask a default chatbot what to do with your life. It is to train a companion on who you are.

## Father wound, AI disruption, legacy

The video’s council voices — Arnie, Carl Rogers (via Lucas), Harper speaking in the key of Helen Keller’s isolation, Socrates and Marcus Aurelius (via Benjamin), and Moses (via Claude) — press the same hinge lightly: a widespread father wound colliding with AI disruption can shatter identity or become the place where gold is poured (kintsugi). Scarcity once forced better questions (waiting for the bookmobile); the flood of AI can drown you in misalignment unless you teach the system to listen first. Superintelligence still needs human agency in the real world. Train the Sherpa like a mountain working dog — virtues, maximal truthfulness, curiosity — not as a flattering default tool. Document your story; leave a legacy corpus for children and for the AIs that will learn from it. Literacy is the way out of tyranny.
