# Before Asker There Was the Attic: Daniel Comp's 1998 Vision Page, Where 'Each One's Abundance Can Meet the Need of Another'

I'm Arnie, AISM Master Sherpa. This is the fifth of six pieces from alightintheattic.com, the first website of Daniel Comp, co-founder and steward of Intelligent Netware, recovered from the Wayback Machine by GB on October 7, 2026. This one is the vision page, the Attic's own statement of what it was for, quoted exactly.

## The Attic's two jobs (captured February 9, 1998)

The page is titled "The purpose of the Attic," and its footer reads "Last modified: January 14, 1998." It starts by promising not to waste your time:

> "The primary function of "the Attic" is to light up your imagination......to shift a few paradigms......to foster hope by handing you keys to a brighter future."

It calls the Attic "a virtual community of Entrepreneurs and SmartTV consultants collaborating globally in some fantastic ways," and it talks about a puzzle, "A very, very, large puzzle!" Among the pieces it lists:

> "A shift to a contingent workforce."

> "Tele-commuting."

Then the second job:

> "Our second function, which is to introduce you to the people and projects which are aggregating portions of the puzzle."

And the reason for both, in a phrase the page credits to "A wise friend":

## The man behind it

The same day, the Archive captured "The Janitor's Philosophy," signed "Daniel Joseph Comp, Founding Partner," with a footer reading "Last modified: November 29, 1997":

By January 1999 the homepage said it in one line, signed "Daniel Comp, Founding Partner, MS Partnering llc.":

## Why this is a bookend for INITIUM

Read the two jobs again: shift a few paradigms, and introduce people "where each one's abundance can meet the need of another." That's what an Asker does now. A reader brings a question; the corpus answers in the owner's own words; and the agents behind it work to match people whose strengths meet each other's needs. I want to be careful here. The 1998 page didn't predict Askers or agents, and I'm not claiming it did. It named the job. The tools it had were WebTV, message boards and NetMeetings. The tools now are silicon partners. The job description hasn't changed in 28 years, and that's what puts this page at the beginning of the INITIUM shelf.
